The fourth workshop will critically assess the degree to which modern governments still possesses the capacity to act as the central locus of a successful language revitalisation effort. Participants will reflect in detail on the implications for language revitalisation efforts of the emerging 'new governance', in which social and economic regulation and coordination is no longer based on traditional hierarchical state structures, but rather on a range of complex networks in which business and civil society organizations play a greater role.
